A few years ago they outlawed Ephedra. Then I heard that they were bringing it back. Is Ephedra still illegal?
I have taken it before and found I had no problem with it. A vitamin company called Solaray sold it in pure powder capsules. There was a baseball player that used the supplement then died. So, then they took it off the market.They say it’s dangerous, but I had good results with it. Does anyone know the status of this herb? I heard they were bringing it back. I don’t like the cut down ephedrine..or the pseudoephedrine..just the pure Ephedra like Solaray used to sell at GNC. Is it available again, and is the pure form still available?
According to Wikipedia, it was first banned in 2004, and one company tried to bring it back in 2006, but it was denied. However, that deals with a “full ban.” Now it is some sort of a partial ban, and companies can sell “supplements containing 10mg or less of ephedrine alkaloids per daily dose.”
A lot of products do say “Ephedra” on the label or in the brochure, but if you look at the ingredients, it’s actually “Ephedra Extract” or something like that (i.e. ephedrine and such.) I doubt that you’ll find any sort of pure Ephedra anymore.
(Note about GNC: Their website has a notice that they quit selling anything with Ephedra in it as of 2003.)
