Do detox diets work?

I’m starting to get serious about losing a lot of weight, and I heard that first off I need to start by cleansing my body and getting rid or all the toxins. I’m wondering is detox diets are successful and if it should be something to spend my time with. If it is, I need some direction in what to do, when to do it, how to do it, and what not.

Fasting (neglecting food altogether) is the best way to “detox”. You’ll want to do this for a minimum of 3 days, and drink only water if you can cope with the drop in energy. Don’t over-exert yourself no matter what. If water-only is too difficult, then drink fruit and vegetable juices that contain no preservatives or additives.

Your stomach will hurt between the first 10 and 48 hours, but after that the pains of hunger will vanish. Since this will be your first time, do not fast for longer than 5 days. Also, you will want to check with your doctor before doing this if you have any heart or pulmonary conditions.
